Economic Development

Click here for the complete Consort Community Profile.

Consort is a traditional rural community long dependent on serving the needs of its local farming and ranching community. Naturally, oil and gas exploration plus the subsequent service industries have fueled local economic development growth for the past quarter century. Due to today's economic climate and the community's long standing dependence on primary industry, Easy Country Economic Development Society, the Village of Consort's mandated economic development arm, recognizes the need to diversify its economic base and potentially reinvent Consort as a vibrant tourism attraction, specifically, the photographer's paradise!

The East Country Economic Development Society (ECEDS) is currently engaged in facilitating a tourism cluster development initiative that will result in a minimum of three feasible options for development to support, facilitate and transition growth in the area.

The East Country Economic Development Board meets monthly and has a membership of representatives from the Village of Consort, Village of Veteran and Special Area # 4.

The Village of Consort is a member of the Battle River Alliance for Economic Development (BRAED), one of the twelve regional alliances under the auspices of Alberta Finance and Enterprise.
