Consort Primary Health Services offers a number of health services to the area.

Health Center
Has 5 acute care beds and 15 Long Term Care beds. Provides 24 hour emergency services which is supported by an arrangement with Castor and Coronation physicians.

Dietician
One day per week (Wednesdays)
Physician Referral, Out patient nutrition counseling (diabetes, cardiac), Nutrition assessments on LTC residents and acute care patients, Consultation with dietary department.

Mental Health
Debra Samson-Weeks: Full time
Individual and family counseling, Assessment of children, adolescents and adults with emotional / behavioral difficulties, Supportive counseling and psychosocial rehabilitation, Life skill management and anger management, Crisis intervention, Addictions, sexual abuse and domestic violence counseling.

Respiratory Therapist
Self and discipline referral; AADL assessments of oxygen and/or respiratory equipment for patients in hospital or at home that may require evaluation; Home Care assessments for clients unable to access a clinic; Respiratory assessments in CRP clinic; COPD teaching at clinic site; Respiratory referral source for treatment , teaching and/or follow up, i.e. sleep apnea screening and referrals.
Future plans to implement Respiratory Education Programs.

Public Health Nurse
Referrals from all disciplines, family, friends and community.

Well Baby Clinic
Well Baby clinic is offered in Consort the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. by appointment only.

Adult Wellness
Presentations are offered on request with the opportunity to learn about healthy living and any other topic that the public is interested in. a Registered Nurse is available to answer questions or concerns you may have. Flu and pneumovax immunization in the fall. Consultation for travelers by appointment.

Prenatal Classes
Are offered through Coronation Health Services. Please call the Consort Office for dates, time and location.

Maternity Visiting Program
The Public Health Nurse is available for phone and in home assessments for newly discharged moms and newborns.

Blue Ribbon Babies
Nutritional assessments and education; Food and vitamin supplements; Smoking Cessation Program for pregnant women; Referrals to existing programs/services; Breastfeeding education and support; Gift Certificates for Prenatal Classes; One to One Counseling and Support; Group Education and Support; Collective Kitchen; Clothing and Equipment Exchange; Support for mothers and children preconceptually and up to 6 years of age

Early Intervention Service
Developmental assessments using Diagnostic Inventory for screening children (DISC); Assessment of family and child strengths; Program planning and suggestions for stimulation in developmental areas; Support and information; Service Coordination; Assistance with transition from Early Intervention Services to alternate Community Resources prior to discharge; Toy/Resource material lending library; Home visits from Early Intervention staff; Opportunities to meet other families of children with special needs.

Genetic Outreach
Preconceptual Counseling; Prenatal Diagnosis Counseling, bookings, follow up and support.
Assessment, family history, pedigree construction, gathering documentation, interpretive counseling, specimen collection, referral, support and follow up as needed by individuals/families with an identified or suspected genetic disorder; Teratogen inquiry services; Follow up and support following miscarriage or stillbirth; Educational presentations.

Lactation Consultant
Assessment of breastfeeding dyad through history taking and observation. Recommends treatment for breastfeeding problems in consultation with the mother and in accordance with her goals. Provides encouragement, support and follow up to breastfeeding families to prevent or reduce the occurrence and duration of breastfeeding problems. Resource provision to other professionals or peer support groups through consultation, in-service education and sharing of resource materials. Provides education for the public (e.g. Prenatal breastfeeding classes, promotional activities. etc.).

Dental Clinics
Prophylaxis and fluoride treatments; Sealant Program; Pre-natal and post natal information (teething, bottles, soothers, etc.); Dental Habits (thumb sucking, tongue thrust); Oral cancer information; Fluoride (topical, systemic, questions); Small Smiles (information for parents at their child's 4 month immunization visit); Seniors (denture care, dexterity aides, xerostomia); Special needs children.

Home Care
The Home Care program offers a wide range of services such as nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, personal care, respiratory therapy, homemaking, relief for the family caregiver and assistance in applying for a long term care facility. Home Care can also put you in touch with other services offered, such as meals on wheels, friendly visiting, transportation, handyman help, help line and mental health services. Community Nutrition Program
Research and investigating nutrition resources as requested by staff; Keeping staff updated in nutrition information developments; Community/media presentations on general nutrition topics (not clinically related); Providing general information to the public - not individual dietetic counseling; Referrals to clinical dieticians.

Public Health Inspector
Inspects and permits all food retail operations (e.g. restaurants, stores, bakeries, etc.); Provides food handlers certification training.
Investigates:
Complaints from public regarding food establishments; food borne illness complaints and/or outbreaks; enteric communicable diseases (e.g. Salmonellosis); animal bite scenarios; Indoor Air Quality concerns; complaints regarding unsafe disposal of solid/liquid waste
Inspects:
Recreational facilities (e.g. swimming pools, campgrounds, beaches); Personal Service facilities (tattoo parlors, body piercing, hair salons); Special Events (Big Valley Jamboree) to ensure safety (food, water, waste disposal); facilities where children are cared for (schools, daycare's); Responds to rental housing complaints (tenant complaints); Monitors water supplies (municipal and private); Participates in land use planning (subdivision and development approval); Provides assistance in disaster response planning.

Sexual Health Education
Consultation, counseling, referrals, educational presentation, on topics related to sexuality such as:
Sexually Transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS; Birth Control; Pregnancy Decision Making Counseling; Pre and Post Abortion Counseling; Relationship Issues Counseling; Female and Male Reproductive Health Issues across the life span (puberty, PMS, menopause, breast health); Body Image and Eating Disorders; Sexual Harassment; Communicating with Children, Parents or Partners
